Whether you've lived in Guilford or Madison for decades or you're spending your first fall season here, this is a little love letter to the place we call home — and a few ways to make your Thanksgiving table a little more special this year.
Fall Traditions Worth Making Time For
Bishop's Orchards Fall Festival — Family-owned in Guilford since 1871, Bishop's is about as Shoreline-fall as it gets. Between apple picking, the creamery, and the Fall Festival running through November, it's an easy way to spend a Saturday morning with kids, grandkids, or just a thermos of cider.
The Guilford Fair — Connecticut's second-oldest agricultural fair has been a town tradition since 1859. If you haven't been, put it on next year's calendar — there's nothing quite like it.
A Slow Drive Down the Shoreline — Some of the best fall color around isn't at a destination at all. Take Boston Post Road or wind through the back roads of Madison at golden hour. It's free, it's easy, and it never gets old.

Something to Sip
If you're looking for a fall cocktail to serve alongside dinner, this one's a favorite of mine this time of year — and it batches easily in a pitcher if you're hosting a crowd.
Maple Bourbon Cider Serves 1 — easily multiplied for a pitcher
Ingredients:
- 2 oz bourbon
- 3 oz apple cider
- ½ oz maple syrup
- ½ oz fresh lemon juice
- Cinnamon stick, for garnish
- Apple slice, for garnish
Directions:
- Add bourbon, cider, maple syrup, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice.
- Shake well until chilled, about 10-15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with the cinnamon stick and apple slice.
To batch for a crowd, multiply everything but the garnish and stir together in a pitcher with ice before serving.
